Check out the Word magazine website for information. There will be plenty going on in District 1.

For new year's eve, they celebrate it at the roundabout clock tower on Nguyên Hue st accross from Kim Do hotel. After it,head to the Pham Ngu Lao area, many expat bars with blinking neon signs party till late. For richy guys, try the topfloor of Caravelle hotel.

There was a ton going on when I was last there in 2004. Hopefully its still a major happening-

Near the Norte Dame Cathedral, is a huge outdoor arts and food festival, which includes the top 25 eateries/hotels in Saigon, 2 live stages for music, one for pop/rock and the other for old school/traditional, an arts fair, a cultural fair, and a crafts fair. The place was buzzing for blocks in all directions, when NY Eve came, pure mayhem! The symphony preformed on the steps of the old cultural center, and there must have been 5 people on a moped on average..

The Saigon Saigon bar at the Caravelle Hotel is on the 9th floor, not the top floor. Good place for drinks with a nice view of Saigon.

The top of the Majestic hotel has live music at the bar as well, overlooks river, and imagine the same holds true for the Rex.

The Rex view is limited due to all the plants lining the edge of the rooftop (and of course it doesn't overlook the river).
