hi guys,

Just planned a very last minute trip to vietnam, for 7 days at the end of January. We're flying into Ho Chi Minh. Im flying over with my partner and we're still trying to figure out what to do. We've gathered that travelling from HCMC to Hanoi and back is too rushed, so we were looking to do something around HCMC.

Is spending the whole 7 days at HCMC a waste as there isn't much to to there? Prehaps a couple of days in HCMC and then a few days somewhere else not to far away as we would need to get back to HCMC? Can anyone recommend any nice beaches close by which we wouldn't have to fly to?

Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Hello!
Welcome to HCM city. the beach nearest HCM is VungTau beach, It take you 4hours by bus or 1,5hours by hidrofoil. You can stay there 2days. Or Mui Ne Beach and 2days is enough in Mui Ne

If you need airport pick up or any free information ,please send me pravite
OP the post @#1 (maybe temporarily) is what we call touting. Touted private info is best avoided.
The tout has 6 posts and always touts its private email (against forum rules). It has a brother with 2 motorbikes to sell, has contacts with guest house and buses.
The best way from airport is a meter taxi (Mailinh or Vinasun) or your hotel transfer.Anything else the chances of being ripped off are high and you will end up with rip off personally guided tours.
Vung Tau is a dirty beach. You would be better going to Con Dao Island-Mekong Air flies there and a trip down the Mekong.
@ nights in HCMC is plenty.
6 nights @ 1,000,000 motorbikes a day= 6,000,000 motorbikes...easy to get fed up with seeing motorbikes and breathing in polluted Saigon air!

You could spend a couple of days in HCMC and go on a Mekong Delta tour for a day or visit the Cu Chi tunnels if that sort of thing interests you.
You could then take a 6 hour bus and head up to Dalat in the highlands for a couple of days where are a few waterfalls etc and other sites to see.
Then catch the bus, which takes around four hours, down to Nha Trang for a couple of days at the beach or at the mudbaths or spending a day on a Mama Hahn boat tour.
Then bus back to HCMC,which takes around 8 hours, prior to you departing the country from there.

Work equals success.

I like Saigon and have spent a week there in the past but you should get out and see a bit while you are in the area. You could do a day or two in Saigon then go on a 2 day 1 night mekong delta tour. When you arrive back catch the night train up to Nha trang for some beach time. Be sure to visit the mud springs for a soak. Not everyone likes nha trang as it is quite developed so you could also go to mui ne, though you'd have to catch the first bus up in the morning, meaning an extra night in Saigon.

Saigon was the highlight of my trip to Vietnam. Lovely restaurants and some good touristy markets. The museums in Saigon are well worth a trip and we also went to the Cu Chi Tunnels, both are good to get an understanding of the history from the Vietnamese. Nha Trang was also lovely, really relaxed and there's some great island hopping to do there. Each of the islands have a nominal fee to get onto, but one has a fresh water spa on it, which is lovely!! As post 5 said it is quite developed, and I wouldn't say it was 'real' Vietnam, but depends what sort of holiday you want! Personally I would skip Mui Ne, I don't know if it was just the time of year that we went (end of August/September) but it was dead and there's not a lot to do there apart from water sports and seeing some sand dunes. It's just one strip of road along a beach, and the water was all brown because it keeps eroding the bars along the beach. And for only one week in Vietnam, I just wouldn't bother. If it's beaches you want Nha Trang is a bit further but was beautiful! I was a bit ill in Saigon so was unable to go to the Mekong Delta but was something that a lot of people were raving about whilst we were there, and a trip to see the more traditional Vietnamese fishing villages might be of interest. They are easy to organise from Saigon as there are many travel agents there.
