Hi,

I am planning a trip to hanoi in a group of 3-4 persons. Due to short visit and it is hard to decide my itinerary as I am not so sure about the distance of the places. Please advice.

I have a plan to visit sapa and Bac Ha (with night trains, and a night in bamboo hotel) Any comment for the bamboo hotel? and any great tour agent to arrange this in Hanoi?

Then, would just have a day trip to Halong Bay. and a day trip to Tam Coc/Ninh Binh. or should I just select Halong Bay trip by taking the overnight on boat trip and not going to Tam coc/Ninh Binh? Do you think just a day cruise for Halong is enough or should be in the 2D1N trip? Is this Tam Coc highly recommended? My trip is too short :(

Besides, please recommend me some reliable agent for above tours.

Thank you

With limited time I would suggest that you just stick with Halong Bay and do the overnight trip. Ninh Binh is a lovely area but has similar scenery to that of Halong Bay. I have heard people say that the one day trip to Halong Bay is too rushed and from the time it took to drive from Hanoi, eat lunch and get out amongst the lovely rock formation in the boat, I would agree. We went on a 2 night trip with Handspan and I would certainly recommend them. The boat was nice and the food good.

Definitely do the 2/day 1/night boat cruise on Halong Bay.
Also, Sapa is a must see.
My wife and I had a wonderful time in Ninh Binh (3 days), but you will not have enough time for this.
So just do Hanoi, Sapa, and Halong Bay.
ONE LOVE !!

I would do just the 1 day trip for halong. You dont really see anything extra taking the 2 day 1 night. Unless you're stoked about spending a night on the boat partying.
As #2 says, Sapa is a must see!

1 day trip for Ha Long bay: it takes 4 hours to get there, cruise in the bay for 2-3 hours and another 4 hours back to Hanoi. It's a holiday, not a mission! Take a 2 day 1 night tour, at least you can relax a little bit.

Much as I enjoyed Ninh Binh I would also suggest spending more time at Halong Bay. As Hongha says 1 day on the bay is a pretty long day. I would also suggest that Ninh Binh is worth more than just a day trip.

Dear all,

Thanks for the info and comments. I will check out the vega travel and handspan tour. Besides these, any highly recommended medium-range accomodation in hanoi? How is this bamboo hotel in Sapa ? or is there any other better choice? How about the online hotel booking, is it reliable?
I am bit regret on such a short stay in hanoi, where there are more to visit!

Thanks again.

Hi There,

I agree with the others - definitely check out the 2 day Handspan tour, we did it in September and it was excellent.

How many days do you have all together? There are certainly many things in Hanoi to see - Mausoleum, Museum of Ethnology, Temple of Literature, etc. etc.

both Vietnamstay.com and also Asiarooms.com come highly recommended to book accommodation online, both are reliable.

Good Luck :)

I definitely do not advise 'Prebooking" a hotel in Vietnam.
It is not necessary at all, as there all many hotels to choose from in any price range.
Ask to see the room and this will save you the hassles that many face with pre-booking.
May a list of 4 hotels within the area you want to stay, and within 1 hour you will find a place that you want.
Take the taxi from the airport for $10US.
ONE LOVE !!

H Mike,
Thanks for the advice. I need to prebook because i will reach hanoi late evening. and the next day i wanna take night train to Sapa. I worry if i dont pre-book the sapa/bac ha trip, there will be no train available. and i am bringing a > 50+ old ppl :(

How much normally would it cost for the 3D3N sapa bacha trip with bamboo sapa hotel? different tour agents were giving different price! Any reliable agent to look for that arrange this ?
Anyone with experience bookning throught ethnictravel or APT?

Camellia and gold spring hotel quality and cleanliness are the same?

Thanks
