Hanoi Hell

Well putting aside the on-going conflict about whether or not there is an orthodoxy on TT that disallows criticism of Vietnam (if possible), could akirakhan and others who have deemed Hanoi "not as friendly" as the South, full of "rude and yucky" people, "pickpockets" and so on please explain to me how it is that this occurs? How does a place breed people who display such homogenous qualities and in particular what is it about Hanoi or Hanoian culture that does this? Maybe if you explained your views about that we would be clearer about what we're really talking about?

They can't explain anything because they are basing their opinions on small windows of subjectivity and anecdote. There's nothing remotely scientific about surveying a few people who have chosen to live in Thailand and asking their opinions of Vietnam. In fact, I'd say that's an extremely biased group.

I think it's all that rock music and MTV.

mrmookie if you know anything about science you must admit there is really no such thing as objectivity.

Just asking the question is philosophy. Forming a hypothesis and testing it is science, baby!

Hm, are you telling the world that a single poll with a bunch of impressionable people via isolated incidents, personal anecdotes and like-minded reinforcement is supposed to be a respectable scientific finding?

No, you don't just report things, far from it. Judging on your own words: "we have to say", "there is", "all agreed", you and your little circle of friends have shamelessly helped yourselves to forming a grand conclusion based on your own murky interpretation.
