Zapfish at #49 & 55, Mango #60. I'm not a regular TTer, tho I enjoyed reading everything about SE Asia, Canada and USA since 6 months ago.

I've never seen any post as negative as this OP. Being a smart, wise, mature, open minded, and civilized person, one should never give a totally negative post like that.

Most posters in this thread have covered multi-countries. You named " forum mafia", it meant TT forum is not trustful. I think you can live without it.

Zapfish, maybe you were in VN 15 years ago. Recently I've rarely heard pickpocket or bag snatching in several trip reports. VN changes each day for the better. And you should know by now those petty crimes likely happen more in the poorer country. You surely hate pickpocket, that's why you called VN is the land of pickpocket. If I don't like prostitute, should I call, " Thailand is the land of prosstitutes". " Mexico is the land of murderers" because more Canadian murdered over there than else where. " Holland, the land of sex". "China, the land of illegal emigrants" . However, I will never dare to call those name because I'm educated and civilized person or at least, I'm living in a civilized country and I always try to behave like a civilized person.

I believe the reaction of the majority is appropriate. This thread is a good lesson for the OP. If she takes time to read over and over again, she will become a better person and I'm sure she will come back to Hanoi to enjoy the trip with a positive attitute and she will be welcomed. If she ignores this thread, she will have a dumb worst souvenir forever.

Geez, I wonder why some people even bother traveling sometimes!

Me, too. Sorry for your stolen mobile.
I also used Air Asia to fly from Bangkok to Hanoi and think it is helpful (cheap and convenient).
Hanoi for me is not that bad hell. In this world there are both good and bad people, so does the same in Hanoi.

Gee , there they were.

Beating the crap out of each other , cracking skulls with the nearest chair, running them down as they tried to cross the road, pulling the plug on their megaphones , just like in the Mel Brooks Classic , Blazing Saddles , and then busrting through the set comes Loannie " Hi Everybody " to bring , as #63 says , a little bit of fun and sanity to this ever expanding post.

I was wondering when "thewindambassador" would make an appearance and she gave me a great chuckle when she made her entrance.

Cheers

Would be interesting to know how many of the 69 posters are on the road and wasting valuable travelling time.

Sometimes I think about Thailand travel, Malaysia travel, China travel- our neighbourings.
Frankly I'm not major in travel, I'm a second year medical student in Vietnam. I study about public health, this field is not popular in Vietnam right now, so I gotta read lots of English books.

For me english is not only a tool but also open up a new horizon to discover the world outside Vietnam. That's reason why I want to improve my English by practicing with foreigners. And as a local, I can help you as much as I could.

Of course I see lots of problems about my country, not only our hospitality but also our habits and customs, even politics(!). But we- re young people who are trying our best to bring a friendly Vietnam to all of you.

In hospitality we trust. Hopefully see you here again...

Well, just finished with an official poll of friends here in Bangkok and we have to say there is a little bit of truth to the OP's post -all agreed that they folks were rude and yucky, etc. up in Hanoi vs. down south...

I was not on your case, just stating a fact.

If you had read more of my posts, you would have seen that I am trying to be objective. I have had run-ins with people who claim that everything is perfect in Vietnam. I know very well that that is not the case, and have said so in the past. I just think that the OP made statements that are weay to generalized, that's all.
