About 5 years ago I stayed at Dan Chu Hotel in Hanoi. I liked the location, that it was pretty quiet, had some colonial charm and was about $50-60 a night for one of the better rooms. I'll be there in May and see that the hotel is in the midst of construction, so I need an alternative.

Appears prices have gone up since I was there, so maybe my budget needs to be about $75 for a similar type room. What would you recommend for a similar type of hotel? Zephyr seems a good location, but posters say it is bland. Quoc Hoa has been recommended to me, but I can't find anything on TT about it. I realize it's a different part of town, which would be ok as long as it's a short walk to the lake and the main attractions.

thoughts and suggestions? thanks.

I have just booked at the Golden Lotus Hotel for early June, have a look at this site. It looks nice and was a recommendation on this branch.

Quoc Hoa hotel is on Bat Dan street. To walk to the lake from this hotel, you will need to go through crowded streets. There are some hotels closer to the lake like Salute Hotel on Hang Dau st or Win Hotel on Hang Hanh st but I'm not sure about their room price. Some TTers I met in Hanoi used to stay there.

Hi There
We have booked Salute Hotel for our upcoming trip. I googled reviews and they seem to be very positive.

Good Luck

Majestic Salute is well located in the Old Quarter with a night market at the weekend in front of it , helpful staff, nice room. It costs around 60$US/night only

Nice stay!
