I am planning a trip with Griswalds in Hanoi . Still waiting for them to confirm but would appreciate any feed back on any one who has used their tours.

DOn't no anything about Griswalds but would strongly recommend Handspan. More expensive maybe but you get what you pay for. Halong Bay is a magical place - trust me in years to come you won't remember the extra $$$ it cost to go on a decent boat.

Hi, Griswalds has received several great wraps on this and other forums in the past-tho havent heard much about them lately. A couple of years ago I contacted them about a tour to Dalat and a few other things and while we ended up travelling independently their response was quick, professional and helpful. An elderly couple I know did their 21 day grand tour and said it was great. They are Australians living in Vietnam who run it and in case that worries you(ie youd prefer it to be run by locals) I can also say they are committed to paying well above average wages to their guides-the guy who runs it is an old trade unionist from Oz.
Sorry its second-hand recommendation but I think you'll be fine with them.

I don't think the problem is really the tours per se, it is the fact that the guy that runs it is a nasty, vicious piece of work!
He would treat a paying customer very well, it is more street kids, street sellers and those less fortunate than himself that he spits his malicious bile at!!
I wouldn't take a tour with them if they sailed the QE11 around Halong Bay for $20!!
As Bob says, you won't remember the extra dollars you spent on Handspan - we had a wonderful time with them, great value for money!
Enjoy your trip :)

Re:#5Well I'd hate to be recommending someone who spits on street kids:whats the story?

Metaphorically speaking - he is really very nasty and does not deserve the business, #1 says it very well. There are many companies that do deserve support and recommendations from TTers.
He also tends to watch TT and doesn't cope well with the truth so you may get a sample or I will receive a tasteful PM!
Feedback for any one reading this. We had limited time in Hanoi to arrange anything and was talked into a Columbus tour through by the reception guy at Hanoi Elegance Hotel. Can recomment the hotel and highly recommend the trip. Transfers overnight private cabin , on a boat better than most we saw, all meals US$75 each (twin share) .
