Hello. I'm visiting Ho Chi Minh for the first time this August for 4 days. I'll be staying at District 1. Any suggestions for a first-timer aside from the historic spots (which I'll surely visit)? What's the best Vietnamese street food? Recommendations on good cafes and coffee shop would be great too.

I plan to take a short cycling trip in nearby towns and villages for one day.. any recommendations for a good tour company?

Lastly, I've heard so much about the famous Vietnamese silk.. where can I have a nice dress made?

Thanks so much. :)

For your information about cafe & coffee shops :
- Bobby Chinn coffee - in Metropolitan building, in front of Notre Dame cathedral
- Terrace coffee & Highland coffee in Sai Gon Center - 65 Le Loi street
- Highland coffee behind HCMC Theater ( Nha Hat Lon TP.HCM) - 7 Lam Son Square Dist.1
- You can try Pho & Beaf Hot Pot at Pho 24 in Huynh Thuc Khang ( by side Sun Wah Tower - 15 Nguyen Hue st., Dist.1). They are really nice, specially Beaf Hot Pot with a big dish of fresh vegetable ;-).
- For other real Vietnamese food, you can go to : Rat Hue ( True Hue - food of Middle of VN) 136/11 Le Thanh Ton - Dist.1, Bun cha Ho Guom at 47 Truong Dinh - Dist.3, banh canh cha ca 154 Nguyen Dinh Chinh st - Phu Nhuan Dist. ( if possible because it is not near the center ). Assuring you there are not many foreigners there because they are really for local people, good food & acceptable prices ;-D
One more of my favorite place is Golden restaurant on the 5th floor - Palace hotel Nguyen Hue st., a very nice one to enjoy buffet dinner ( around US$ 20/ person) & Sai Gon view by night.

  • For nice silk dresses, you could find them out easily around center area ( Le Loi st., Dong Khoi st., Mac Thi Buoi st., Le Thanh Ton st., etc...)
    Great journey & good luck!
