Does anyone know where in Hanoi,I can pick up a detailed map of North Viet Nam suitable for motorbiking.
something similar to GT Rider in Thailand--I dont currently have a smart phone and prefer something i can refer to physically that shows all the secondary roads . Cheers

Has good suggestions. You can pick up maps at bookshops in Hanoi. Try Fahasha.

No Vietnamese map is 100% up to date and complete.....Nor is google maps (which I prefer). Let the adventure begin.

looks like that yellow ''travel map of viet Nam ''might be just the ticket---its a shame that they didnt give examples of the same area in the article so one could compare apples with apples-----Its those secondary roads Im after in general.

good info...many thanks

The bigger bookshop on Trang Tien, otherwise the opposite side of the rd,a bit nearer to the lake.

The book shops near the lake did not have any really good maps for my bicycle ride last year but they do sell maps ....I used google maps for my bike ride.

And, if you do go for google maps, Viettel is your friend. Best coverage off the beaten track by far. Still good to offline maps just in case...

(QT Motorbikes in Ha Giang have a handy map of the Ha Giang area.)

Go on Trang Thien Street (the one going from Hoan Kiem Lake to the Opera). You have several bookstores. Buy the atlas of maps as good as the Michelin ones (dark blue cover with photo of bridge by night ) called

TÂP BAN DÔ GIAO THÔNG DUONG BÔ VIÊT NAM

I use that book all the time, it's the best !
