Hi,
I am thinking of taking the train from Danang to Hue and then by car from Hue back to Danang.
1. Is it easy to get the train tickets on the spot or do I need to book a day or 2 in advance?
How much is the adult fare ?
2. Also if I were to hire a car to take me from Hue back to Danang via the Hai Van Pass how
much will it cost for a group of 4.? Is it easy to get a car hire in HUE? Anybody has any good
car rental company to recommend both in HUE and Danang.
Thanks in advance for all your replies

1.Very easy. Book 1 or 2 days in advance if you can. Too cheap to mention.
2.One way trip Hue-Da nang costs around 40 USD. That's for a Corolla, a bit more for a 7-seater van. Expect to pay a bit more as the petrol price has gone up. Just ask the hotel staff to recommend one and inspect the conditions of the car before strike a deal. Request the driver not to go thru the tunnel.
Have a great time in Hue.
It's just a short train ride, about 2 hours or so. I don't think you will find any problem with getting a seat. To get a ticket for a soft sleeper in a long train ride would be more difficult than just a hard seat. US$40 as #1 said was the same as what we paid to rent a car between Hue and Da Nang but it was some years ago, I guess you may add US$5-10 for petrol.

quotes i've been given in the past couple of days for that Hue-Danang trip is $45-50. the only person who quoted above that said they'd 'discount' it for me to $50 so i reckon you could go for $45... should probably mention that 'car hire' isn't like you get your own car and drive it but includes a driver and would be worth it i reckon. open bus through that area went through the tunnel but the scenery on either side was great and i can only imagine how lovely it'd be from the top of the pass which you could arrange to go over with your own driver. unfortunately, travelling solo means i couldn't afford the car. enjoy!
