Cricket watching in Phu Quoc

Hi Nicola,

Sorry don't know about the cricket. However, I have a few questions if you've got time - What's Phu Quoc like? Where would you recommend staying? And is there anything to do there?

The cricket world cup is available in Vietnam on cable TV, on South African channel Super Sports 2. Whether they have it on Phu Quoc is another question....!

The guesthouse we stayed at, like just about all of them I expect, had cable TV complete with the 'Australian Channel' which possibly could show the game. Generally though, if your room doesn't have it on cable, which is unlikely, wander up the beach and poke your head in some of the bars along the beach, most of the time you could probably just ask them to change it.

Greg, Phu Quoc is beautiful. It's comparable to some of Thailands best IMO, a real small town vibe behind a 'just starting to boom' beachfront, which is tidy, well looked after and complete with all your S.E Asian beach cliches.

There's some really beautiful restaurants as well. On the main beach, down the southern end (as opposed to the Saigon Phu Quoc Resort end) there's a wonderful open-air, on-the-beach restaurant you have to try.

A word of advise though, the weather there can be unpredictable, and ferries can be canceled frequently. Either allow yourself a few days for cancellations or fly off the island. Personally, I couldn't recommend flying more, the ferry trip in bad weather is the epitome of travel sickness nightmares. 40% of our passengers were vomiting. The cabins enclosed as well.
