Hi. We have 2 nights planned in the Mekong Delta and were thinking of spending one night in Ben Tre and then the other in Can Tho. We then head off to Phu Quoc for some relaxation with the kids. A few qs:
- Is it worth a night's stay in Ben Tre ?(travelling with 11 year old boys)
- if we overnight in Can Tho is it possible to still see Cai Rang market and still catch a bus to Rach Gia to make the 1pm ferry to PQ? Is that just nuts?
- better to stay 2 nights in Can Tho?

Any advice much appreciated. We will have spent 4 nights in HCMC....

Thanks!

Seems to me you want to rush ! Ben Tre is no big deal. 1 night Can Tho, next day Cai Rang (takes at least 2 hours) and bus CT-Rach Gia ; one night RG and speed boat to PHQ. I don't see Cai Rang-RG-boat in one day ! Or then, you fly from CT to PQ

If you would like to do that route, I think you do not need to stay overnight in Ben Tre I mean the whole 2 nights in Can Tho. Day 1: HCMC to Can Tho, Day 2: Floating markets and Day 3: 8 am bus from Can Tho to Rach Gia for a 12:40 pm or 13 pm speed boat to Phu Quoc island (2,5 hours). The other option is 1 night in Ben Tre, 1 night in Can Tho and take a 11:40 am flight from Can Tho to Phu Quoc island.

Thanks for the advice. I think we'll do 2 nights in Can Tho rather then. And take the early bus to Rach Gia. All flights are booked for the date we need to fly.

Are any busses better than others?

Thanks

Sam

I was in Can Tho a couple of months ago with my father. We did an excellent small boat tour to the Cai Rang and Phong Dien floating markets and travelling back via the small canals, seeing a lot of local life, small villages etc.
It ran for 7hrs - 5.30am - 12.30pm and the price was 45-50 USD, which we booked one day in advance through our hotel (I think most hotels can arrange it). The small boats are suitable for 3-4 people plus a guide and boat driver and are a great way to see to local waterways.
Staying two nights in Can Tho is very sensible.
