Looking for somewhere delicious for dinner on our first night. Suggestions?

Try a place called Quan An Ngon...it was my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the entire country. It looks reminiscent of an open-air French villa and has nice indoor and courtyard seating. They serve a wide variety of delicious Vietnamese food at great prices and many of the patrons are locals. The place is very popular for both lunch and dinner. The food here is phenomonal.
It is located almost across the street from Reunification palace at 138 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 1.

Every time I am in Saigon I eat (at night) at the eateries right outside the Ben Thanh market.
They assemble about 5 p.m. each afternoon, line up side by side on the street , cook great food and its all very cheap. The change from one establishment to the next is identified by the different types of seating.
Can't fault it and there is plenty to see by way of the passing action as you eat.

The name translates to, "delicious". It's always packed with people so be prepared to wait for a seat. This website has a fairly comprehensive list of restaurants in HCMC.

I'm with the Quan an Ngon team. I went there the last 2 nights I was in HCMC (and several to the branch in Hanoi) and just love it. It's not expensive and there are lots of good things to choose and then look out for on the street. I f you go early (like 6.30) you won't have to wait and if you are prepared to share a table your wait will also be shorter. You can sit in the garden or inside- all good.

Ngon is a 'training wheels' restaurant - it allows tourists to try lots of new dishes. Vietnamese go because it fills a niche between streetside cafe and starched table cloths.
