what power adapter for Laos?

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos

Hi all....what type of plugs do power-points in Laos take? I think they're the 2 prong type, but is that the rounded ones?...like in Thailand? Vaguely remember reading a thread on here a while ago about similar but can't find it...And voltage? Is it 220? I need to get an adapter.
For that matter can I expect to find power-points in guesthouse rooms?
Or maybe somewhere secure in g/house office/whatever to leave my battery recharger turned on,say overnight,(for my camera) I realise it'll depend on the individual place, but how have other people managed with recharging stuff in the budget places?

Thanks in advance.

2 pin either round, straight or both. Depends on the place...

guinaverre-check your ac adapter. Most new ac adapter now accept 100 to 240V, which will be no problem in Lao.

borrowed 2 batteries from a friend who owns a similar camera model (our cameras use proprietary batteries, not AA ones), & had 2 of my own. brought a 2 flat pin adaptor & small roll of electrical tape. found electrical outlets in some guesthouse rooms (usually those in bigger towns e.g. Luang Namtha, Udomxai, Luang Prabang, Houay Xai) but not all. some sockets gave nothing but sparks, & a town or two had their not-uncommon power failures (great for stargazing). most sockets were pretty loose, hence the electrical tape (used it to seal leaky plumbing & peekaboo gaps in room doors too). in Luang Prabang the sockets were outside my room behind a tall potted plant, so my charger sat overnight in the pot & nobody noticed - don't try this in daytime in case someone waters the plant!

the locals have to have somewhere to charge all their mobile phones, if really desperate could even try an internet cafe ;)
