Trekking from Ha GiangCountry forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Vietnam
I'm going to visit Ha Giang and want to find a guide to hike with me to local villages. Must I hire someone in Hanoi - or can I travel independently to Ha Giang and hire a guide once I arrive in the area? Also, I'm interested in arranging for one or more homestays in the area. Does anyone have information about this please?
HG is NOT a trekking destination, and so is not the breathtaking Dong Van ; one-day trekkings only ! Those who proposes several-day trekking from HG proposes in fact a one-day around HG and then drive to DV for another day. (or take you to the expensive Pan Hou Village, which is NOT around Ha Giang, but a 2-hour west drive from it and with so-so trekking, or includes Bac Ha - excellent trekking - which is one-day drive away. The HG Resort (Truong Xuan) arranges some day trekkings around HG Very few homestays aroung HG and none in DV ! | 1
Thank you for this information, Larsay. It is very helpful - thank you. Two questions: (1) Are you saying that the trekking would be better in the area around Bac Ha? (2) Is | 2
Bac Ha has excellent trekking from 1 to 5 days, with homestays in the mountains. The best are organized by the small hotel Ngan Nga BAC HA (there is also a large Ngan Nga Hotel) One-day only trekking from DV,(no homestays around !) | 3
In my oppinion, you should hire a guide or book tour Hagiang before you go to active . | 4
It is basically a choice between great trekking around Bac Ha or one-day trekking only around Dong Van, which offers the most stunning landscape in Vietnam, but requires private transportation from Ha Giang, a chauffeur-driven car + guide or rented motorbikes (easy ; good tarred roads !) | 5
In your case, you should book a tour to Ha Giang. Or you can contact with hotel in Ha Giang, they also have service to help tourist and they know what you need. | 6
The only really good hotel in Ha Giang is the Truong Xuan (Hagiang Resiort) ; its manager, who speaks very good English, organizes trekkings around HG | 7
Here you are, organized by the Truong Xuan !!! FULL-DAY TREKKING AROUND HA GIANG Departure at 9 am from Truong Xuan Resort ; transfer by car 11 km to Ha Thanh, a large village of Tay people who live in spacious wooden houses built on stilts. We start trekking for about 3 hours uphill through the forest, tea plantations and rice terraced fields, to reach the Black Dzao village of Lung Vai. Here you will visit some Dzao families, watching them perform their daily work, and visit of the village school. After lunch with the local people, we go on a trail downhill for about 30 minutes to visit the Dzao village of Khuay Mi, where you enjoy more cultural discovery of local ethnic people as well as the breathtaking scenery of the Na Toong Valley. Keep walking downhill for about two-and-half hours down to the Tay village of Ban Tha, the last village on the tour. Back to Truong Xuan resort by car. | 8
