| milligank20:36 UTC18 Jun 2007 | Hi all,
I am traveling from Bangkok to Siem Reap in a few weeks. I was thinking of flying by its a little expensive.
I was looking at the bus option.. at about 10USD, but based on hte fantastice comments of teh road, no AC and plenty of dirty.. I am leaning toward going in a taxi.
Should I just share a taxi with others.... sure its only 40USD...... that 10US eash... the same as the bus
Thoughts.... anyone !!!!!!

| sydneyangkor12:03 UTC19 Jun 2007 | You mean 10$ for the bus from Poipet to Siem Reap?
You will not get a taxi from Poipet to Siem Reap for 40$ if you just arrive with no arranged pick up from a guesthouse or hotel. Even if you get an arranged pick up from place you are going to stay it will still probably cost 45$.
You could fly to Phnom Penh from Bangkok with www.airasia.com then take the bus up to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh. It is cheaper then flying direct to Siem Reap if you book in advance.

| mtbouchard13:48 UTC19 Jun 2007 | Hey,
I did the overland Thailand->Siem Reap trip in Jan 2006. I used the info at tales of Asia.com which was excellent, excellent. If you follow that and dont mind a 5 hour semi-adventurous-but-safe ride on a dirt road, then do it! Much much more interesting way to be introduced to the countr in my opinion. One day soon theyll pave this. After you cross the border, theyll be an offical bus to bring you to the bus/taxi stop. You can sit in the back of a truck with 12 for cheaper, but for me that was borderline unsafe but its legit and maybe more fun. :) $10 (or was it $15) sounds a bit expensive but its a FIVE hour drive on a crazy road...you want a well paid driver. :)
Heres a photo of the crossing:

Have fun.
