Teaching English in Vietnam on a Tourist visa

My information is out of date, but I know that it used to be easy for visitors on Tourist visas to get temporary work as English teachers in Vietnam, especially in HCM and Hanoi.

Is this still the case? Are there lots of opportunities to work for 1-2 months? Is there a big risk of trouble with authorities?

Lots of them ! Apparently, the authorities do not care as long as it is not forever (of course, you do not say a word to anybody, especially upon arrival at the airport and to other Vietnamese, who are very "gossipy")

And of course don't expect the help from authorities if it all goes belly up because you'll only get the bottom if the barrel jobs.

Very common in VN, not only in HN and HCM city now, many of my friends are teaching in some northern provinces as well. 7-8 out of 10 foreigners in Vietnam I know are teaching English with tourists visa with/without intel' teaching certificates. However, sometimes I can read several posts complaining about their conflicts with English centers, contract violation....and of course if they can't ask for any help from local authorities coz they are working illegally too.

My son is well qualified to teach English as a foreign language and before he went to South Korea, he researched Vietnam. His decision was made partly on shoddy conditions and the large number of poorly qualified ( if at all) teachers there. To Jim, you either do it properly or not at all.
