Places on the Cambodian Coast

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

Hi all - am looking for recommendations of interesting places on the Cambodian coast, particularly small fishing villages etc. Don't really know much about it but my sense is there could be some good gems to visit. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Cheers!
Alex

I really loved Kep: beautiful coastline, crab market & abandoned villa's from the 60's you can explore.

I second Kep, it's so peaceful there and you can use it as a starting point to rent a motorbike and travel to the smaller villages and caves around it.
Here is my blog entry about my time in Kep and Kampot area: http://gimhaetravellers.blogspot.kr/2013/07/kep-and-kampot.html

I hope it helps and good luck!

Hi graby - thanks for the info. Great blog, btw - I saw your entry on Koh Rong. Currently trying to decide on which beach area/island to visit in Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam. I'm not all that interested in wandering around different islands, and I'd much prefer to spend a good amount of time (up to a week) on one. My girlfriend is a diver, so it would need to be somewhere that can cater to that. Is Koh Rong the best bet (we prefer quieter places), or do you think we should go to somewhere in Thailand as well?
Thanks!

Are you referring to Bokor Hill.?

No I'm not: https://www.flickr.com/photos/eb78/sets/72157606065682774/detail/ (not mine, but as a reference) & http://www.lonelyplanet.com/cambodia/travel-tips-and-articles/76687

Also trying to find information on which beach/ island might be best in January. We also prefer quieter places. Considering Koh Rong also. Have travelled Thailand before and my favourite place was Koh Lipe. Would Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem be in any way similar to this or might we be better to fly on to Thailand after visiting Siem Reap and Angkor Wat?

Rong Samloem better than Rong. Water is clearer, services better. Stayed a couple of weeks ago at a small collection of beach huts right near the pier - new, good size rooms, good value, and really good food in the busy cafe. Orchid, I think, but Google for info. Very relaxing 5 day stay just with books and bourbon!

Loads of old villas in Kep, which used to be the weekenders for people from the capital when the French were there. Moves to renovate them into boutique hotels and restaurants. Some must have been just fabulous in their hey-day.
Bokor another entity entirely, also now under restoration. Will be good if somebody with the money and the vision could re-open the old hotel.........

Have a look at Orchid Resort, Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia www.orchidresort.asia

Yes, that's the one - I thought it was Orchid or might have been Orchard, couldn't recall. Looks as good as I remember, but there's a mistake with the rooms pics - the double bungalow has one kingsize bed, NOT two kingsize beds as described in the blurb. For two KS beds you need the family bungalow.
You can also cross the island for other eating options like we did, or just walk around the bay, but we came back to the café at the resort, it's just the best.
