Phnom Penh to Can Tho, Vietnam

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

What is the fastest and most painless way to get to Can Tho? We wanted to take the boat to Chau Doc and the mini-bus from there to Can Tho, but I read that there is no longer a fast boat to Chau Doc. Is that true? Would we be better of just going to HCMC and then going down to Can Tho from there?

Also, where do we exchange dollars for dong if we do enter Vietnam at Chao Doc?

We took the boat from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc in July this year, no probs. I can't imagine them stopping this service.
We exchanged our dollars at either the bank or money exchange counters

Thanks. Are there exchange counters at the border when entering by boat? The last time I was in Chao Doc I remember it was a pain in the neck changing money; I had entered by land at an obscure crossing.

Not at the border no, but we went to the bank in Chau Doc to exchange money

A Vietcombank in Chau Doc.

Oh that's right...now I remember...I came into town on a xe om from the border south of town, and that bank was closed. I wound up changing money with a local merchant who, thankfully, spoke French. Good thing, too, since I speak about as much Vietnamese as I do Tzutujil.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, folks!
