northwest of cambodia

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

Good day fellow travellers,

Being in Cambodia I stayed 4 days in Siep reap enjoying in & around. Moved to Phnom penh in order to continue to south BUT I realised I would see very little about the country and local life. So now I am planning to make a kind of loop in northwest including Pursat, Battambang, Oddar meanchey provinces.(maybe some border towns?)
I will start tomorrow fm PP planning to stop at Kompong Luong. I have roughly 10 days. Would U be kind enough to give me some destinations U travelled before. I travel generally by bus, sometimes rent a scooter.

Thanks for advises
Peace U all

My suggestion.
Go to Koh Kong. Spend a couple of days at Oasis Bungalow resort and do day trip to waterfall and another to Koh Kong Island.
Hire taxi to Osaom in the Cardamom mountains and stay a night (or several) at Mr Lim's Community Based Ecotourism project. Taxi from there to Pramouy and Pursat. From Pursat to Battambang. Spend a day (or 2) at Banteay Chhmar.
Return to Siem Reap.
Not much to do in Pursat. You could visit some of the floating villages.
You don't say when you're going and that may affect your ability to get around. The road from Koh Kong to Pramaouy is mainly dirt and gets very boggy in wet season.

thnx uomo

I am travelling at this very day, 23 march 2016
Can I go to Battembang fm PP by boat? if not what is the way of visiting floating villages like Kompong Luong or Kampong Chnang?
I have not traveled by taxi until now. So i am not sure if it is in my budget. Any idea of cost?

Sorry, never paid a visit to the floating villages so I can't help you much with that. Perhaps others on here can. I suggest you try google or a guide book.
Perhaps you can make enquirers in Pursat. However Pursat isn't on the usual tourist trail so you may have some problems unless you speak Khmer.
You can't get to Battambang from Phnom Penh by boat.

Just came across this information on Kampong Luong and thought it contained some information that you might find useful: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g293939-i9162-k8426969-Kompong_Luong_floating_village_and_Krakor-Cambodia.html

Banteay Chmar might be a good idea. Spectacular temples in a nice country setting. take a motorbike early in the morning from Sisophon.

uomo: thx for that interesting link. This is definitely worth a bookmark :)

Border towns rarely worth visiting in their own right and can in your case involve a bit of a detour

heading south from PP you could have gone to places like Kampot and Takeo but there is plenty to chose from in Cambodia

I wrote this very long-winded report about Kompong Luong a few years ago. Includes how I got there to/from both Pursat and Krakor. I do have a friend who quite liked Pursat as a basic "hangout" place, not a place with specific sights. But I just passed through on my way to the wonderful floating village.

I liked Pursat - just walk along the river in either direction or either side very pleasant way to spend a morning or afternoon
