Hello,

Is there any update for the situation? Is the new international border gate at Tamu already functional? I understood that
April should be a month when things are getting changed(?) .

No change at all I'm afraid. The same rules still Apply at the moment. You still need to buy an entry and exit permit and apply a month in advance and you can only exit into India if you entered via India and Vice-versa! The companies that are licensed to sell the MTT permits won't even sell the permits as a ^stand alone^ item now. You can only buy them as part of a package deal that includes escorted transport etc.

I traveled Silchar-Imphal just a few days ago and I'm currently in Imphal. Really bad roads and many checkpoints but no problems otherwise. The guys at the Jiribam checkpoint were super nice. They gave me food and a phone charger and one of the guys took me to his farm where I could have a shower. I got to sleep in a proper bed at the checkpoint and in the morning they even got me a free ride with a shared jeep all the way to Imphal, because they didn't want me to walk/hitchhike.

As far as I can tell there is no violence or tension or problems with supplies in Imphal. Quite a normal town.

Hey everyone, me and my friend are planning to cross Moreh-Tamu from India to Myanmar in October. From all the information gathered we have contacted Exotic Myanmar and as per the new MTT permit rules it costs $160 per person. They said they will issue an invitation letter which we have to show at the consulate in Kolkata for the visa. However we will be able to visit the consulate maybe a week before we cross the border. How quick is the visa process? Can we get it in 1-2 days?

You should be able to hand the paperwork in at the Embassy in the morning and collect the visa in the afternoon on the same day- as long as all the paperwork is correct. Are you intending to cross back into India after you have visited Myanmar or attempt to cross into another Country?

Oh wow that would be perfect, we don't want to spend much time in Kolkata as we have some plans in North-East India before entering Burma. We will be crossing back to India through the same point.

OK. Only asked because the permit states you have to return via the same crossing point and isn't valid for onward travel from Myanmar into any other country officially. Good luck. Maybe after you have done the crossing, you could post some info on here about how it Went?
