| montyman02:53 UTC14 Nov 2007 | I think you need 14 days as I did my first time to Myanmar in 2001 since then I take 4 weeks, second time to do hsipaw and onec I can sell my vehicle it will be another 4 weeks but with Mrauk u in sight and a river trip but not Mandalay. arrive Yangon airport and get taxi with others around $1 each, use cashe for this section last time I walked out opposite airport but had only $100 notes but got taxi to Sule Pagoda for 100baht =$2.50 at time. if you get Taxi get them to stop 5 minutes at the railway station car park, here are the bus companies ie expensive Leo Express, who want paying in $US from tourists, but nice buses , I took Thazi express a few times cheaper yet the best company broke down most on me Ha! Ha! book same evening [air asia gets yangon 0915am ] overnight Mandalay, spend day in Yangon and schwedigon eat at Okinawa before heading back to bus station there is number 43 takes you the 17km's to bus station 300kyat but maybe easier to pay for shuttle bus from bus company and get your GH in Mandalay to book early your tickets for that evenings performance of the happy marionettes,[ a must see] to book a bus or boat early next am to bagan. spend day Mandalay hill see fort [I didn't think it wiorth paying to see inside, but I'm just a CHEAPSKATE anyway. 3 days bagan on bike stay Naung U not Bagan or old Bagan and must eat Poh Cho one night. bus is early 5am to Inle and at least 3 days there and get bus or two day trek back to Kalow 2 days and bus direct overnight back to Yangon but dont expect it to arrive when it should at 5 am it will get there at around 11am or early afternoon after breakdowns which is why Kalow is the best place to wait for it. book 2 weeks if possible and book return flight to BKK don't book inside Burma and also make sure you take cash some small $US bills and obviously $100 I spent $400 for 4 weeks in January all inclusive of a couple of beers and GH's $3-$6 per night also make sure you get visa in advance and allow two days in case they haven't given the same day service as they did in Januray because of the generals fear of who's going in to check on them. ie press

| solohobo03:17 UTC14 Nov 2007 | Fly in/out of Yangon via Bangkok, use AirAsia online.
Internal transportation is pretty lame and slow via bus, share taxi or train, so you can fly internally and book on the go once there, Mandalay Air goes to all the routes.
You may wish to head to Bagan as a focus, possibly going via Mandalay, as this city has a lot to see do for day trips as well, and boat to Bagan.
Flying you could go to 3 venues, Inle Lake is nice, via airport in Heho. average flight is about $80 leg, give or take $20.

| bun_cha06:46 UTC14 Nov 2007 | In 10 days you can loop Rangoon to Mandalay to Bagan via air (or Mandalay to Bagan via bus or boat). Adding more stops would be pushing it. Last summer we went Rangoon to Bago to Moulmein & back via bus and train in 10 days - because we'd been to other places several times before.
Some good guides to Burma here (esp see Compadre, Asiaphoto and Henk's sites in Burma section): Budget travel basics for Southeast Asia - Gets you started – expenses, transportation, lodging (links to rates, good photos of guesthouses), eating, safety and scams, countries sections, etc. Non-commercial – completely updated and tested 10/24/07.
