| bearsbearsbears21:25 UTC31 May 2007 | I'm now in Thailand but wanted to finally write about a bad experience I had at Mui Ne beach.
On the advice of my Easy Rider, I stayed at Hai Gia Hotel in Mui Ne. They offered me two rooms, one big room with hot water and no TV, and one smaller with TV and hot water. After looking at a few other hotels, I chose to stay at Hai Gia in the first room. They told me someone called and reserved it while I was out looking. Fine. I took the second room, unpacked my things, killed upwards of 10 mosquitoes in the room, then went about town having dinner and getting acquainted. I returned in the evening and went to shower.
The hot water didn't work. I went to reception, who told me that the room had no hot water and they told me this when I picked the room. I related that I had been told both rooms had hot water, and I asked for a different room. They told me that hotel was full. I asked them to turn on the hot water, and they refused, saying it didn't work. I explained calmly that they told me the room had hot water, and that I looked at other hotels and would have chosen a different hotel if I knew this room was cold water. I wouldn't have stayed there at all.
It was 10:00pm by this point, and the manager woke the staff member who had showed me the room. The staff member wouldn't look me in the eye--wouldn't even look in my general direction!--while he said he had told me the room had no hot water. I said, "No, you didn't. Look at me and tell me--" when the manager cut me off to scream at me to get out of the hotel. Needless to say, I packed my things and left, telling them it was poor business to lie to people about their rooms to get them to stay, then found a room for $2 less per night next door, which also had no hot water, but the staff didn't lie to me about it!
Anyway, point being: avoid Hai Gia hotel in Mui Ne. Heck, avoid all the expensive beachfront areas and stay at the guesthouses on the other side of the road, because the water on the beachfront strip is so dirty your bathing suit will dry to a splotchty shade darker and wash out brown water. The better beaches are along the road to the dunes, accessible by motorbike.
In 8 months of travelling Asia, I've only had 2 bad experiences in hotels. This one, and here on Ko Tao at Sunshine II. I think only 2 bad hotels in 8 months is pretty lucky, but you'd be luckier to avoid Hai Gia in Mui Ne!

| ticotim22:33 UTC31 May 2007 | Stop whining....how much did you pay?

| invincible_gamera22:33 UTC31 May 2007 | I have a feeling the Hai Gia Hotel staff are laughing at you. I don't blame them.

| froude122:47 UTC31 May 2007 | Read this guys description of his ruined hotel stay at his Thai Hotel. Why? Because the lightbulb in his room was not of high enough wattage.

| jjack23:12 UTC31 May 2007 | "I explained calmly that they told me the room had hot water, and that I looked at other hotels and would have chosen a different hotel if I knew this room was cold water." - I can pretty much guarantee you that you in fact did not "calmly" explain anything. You acted like an obnoxious tourist and "demanded" you get your way.
"when the manager cut me off to scream at me to get out of the hotel." - that's how I know you didn't "calmly" say anything.
I strongly advise you go home and take your next vacation in Anaheim California. You absolutely do not belong in asia.

| straightnochaser01:27 UTC01 Jun 2007 | How much for that room, indeed. I bet there were no compliments of the house chocolates on the pillow either.

| carolinef9801:58 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Thanks for the warning. I think it's important that hotels provide the service they promise. It's great to hear that you only had a couple of bad experiences in hotels if you've been travelling for 8 months. I suppose sometimes these things happen, it's useful to get people's feedback to aid future travellers who may be staying in the same place.

| katielunn07:29 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Well done for posting here despite the fact that this forum appears to be full of ignorent elitist bullies.

| mikeymike10:56 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Hey folks It is his experience, and he does have the right to post on this branch. If I met you guys on the travelling trail, and over a nice gold beer, I told you that if you were going to Mui Ne, advoid this hotel, because the owner lied and scamed me. Would you stay at that hotel when you arrived in Mui Ne ? Would your opinions be different then, as opposed to his posting it here ? ONE LOVE !! Mike

| ticotim10:59 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Katie----
And your opinion and advice is.....?

| bisbee13:29 UTC01 Jun 2007 |
Quote
then found a room for $2 less per night next door, which also had no hot water

So you left the hotel because it didn't have hot water and changed to another hotel that didn't have hot water?? Did you get a refund at the first hotel? Or did you just pay for 2 rooms that didn't have hot water?

| nijkerk15:29 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Another option, " excuse me , the hot water isnt working" " There isnt any hot water" "Someone told me that there was" " But there isnt,...ill wake him up " "No forget , ill check out and look for somewhere else" "Bye!"..."Bye!".No shouting ,no argument, no staff member dragged out of bed, "look at me and tell me "(good grief !). No need to post pointless whinge on the Thorn Tree.

| ae12345621:58 UTC01 Jun 2007 | Okay, so maybe the OP had a bad time of it. He admits that he had only two bad experiences in eight months of travel in Asia. So, why is his first ever contribution such a whinge. I am sure that most here on TT would have liked to have heard of the rest of his visit.
Tell us what went well, too? What were the memories, sights, sound, smells, food views, wildlife, architecture, etc. That way people would be more sympathetic to any future or combined post of a more negative nature .

| cibassett23:25 UTC01 Jun 2007 | 3 bears - Shut up.
| 13 |
| mikeymike13:54 UTC02 Jun 2007 | So the question is. Can anybody post a negative experience ? It is part of traveling. Right ? OK that was two questions :>) ONE LOVE !! Mike
| 14 |
| jjack22:42 UTC03 Jun 2007 |
Quote
So the question is. Can anybody post a negative experience ?

Of course they can, and if they are a truly negative experience and the posting of it will help others, then those postings are most welcome.
But to bother to post a long stupid story about a hotel in a developing country that didn't have hot water, and then try to claim the hotel was operating some sort of scam, well that's just ridiculous and pathetic. Some people have absolutely no concept what the rigours of travel really are.

| mrnicky23:48 UTC03 Jun 2007 | Dam, we been wasting time on the creature and this liitle one has been going along.
cracks knuckles
OMG?
Have you read his blog?
3000 words on him and his mate drinking Tea? Starting with the fact that he sat to the left of his friend, who left after a cup, leaving him to explaine to the person serving the Tea, in deapth, as to why he and his friend liked younger Tea's, who also left. Strange?
If i was drinking tea with him I would put poison in it.
Actualy, I would swap the tea cup's and drink it for the shame of allowing myself to be with him.
People, we don't need to comment on this one.
Mother nature has delt him the biggest blow just with his personality.
He actualy needs our help before he goes totaly mad.
You know those people that you read about in the paper, or see friends of on the news going "he always seemed such a nice man, quiet, kept himself to himself...."
But has actually been going out at night, stalking minor celebraties and finaly killed one? He is just that. That's our Jason.
Call the police. Its called Proventative Action.
I am ashamed to say that he it a bottom bandit, but even the most proactive, progay rights person would distance themselves from someone who:-
A, List the 'Weather Girls' - 'Its Rain Men', as there top tune (nothin wrong with the song, its just there are better versions - Jue Pauls, for example) B, Someone who is a member of No Problem - but this person in this club?? C, His negative outlook on life. His own words on his blog:-

Quote
. I won't completely drop my defenses here, but I have come to re-realize if I don't think positively about where I am, I will not reap a positive experience.

Get help and die.
Nic
P.S. Although ashamed he is a 'rectum ranger',and as such gets 'Gay Mafia' status, there is a possitive side, that is,1, i will never be drunk enough to sleep with it, and 2, he wont bread and as such his gene line ends with him.
Meaning, that no one else will be put through the risk of sleeping with its off spring in any furture genaration.

| sdavi368003:08 UTC04 Jun 2007 | So you had to kill a few bugs and you didnt get hot water?? what a pansy. Sorry but hot water showers are not all that common in budget places and mosquitoes are just a fact of life.
| 18 |
| hanno06:46 UTC31 May 2012 | I'd be pissed off if I was promised hot water and did not have it; but it is only the OP's statement that he wasn't told about it. What if the staff did actually tell him?
The staff member wouldn't look me in the eye
Does not indicate anything, this is common in Vietnam and has nothing to do with implied guilt.
