Medical student final year elective LaosCountry forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos
Hi there, We are 2 final year medical students from New Zealand who as a set part of our course have the opportunity to complete an elective under appropriate supervision either in NZ or overseas - this will be in August-November of this year. We graduate on return to NZ. We are hoping to spend some of this time in Laos, however we are struggling to find contact details for suitable hospitals/clinics. Does anybody know of such a place who would take on a couple of medical students for 3-4 weeks? Thanks for your help. Erica.
Interesting thought Erica. I'm wondering how involved NZAid is in community health here in Laos. Maybe you can contact NZAid to find out. New Zealand doesn't have a bricks and mortar embassy in Laos. Everything goes through Bangkok. Maybe you could contact Bangkok. M Thai Tower, 14th Flr, All Seasons Place, 87 Wireless Rd I'm not aware of any New Zealand NGOs working in health in Laos but possibly you can contact CARE Australia who have a couple of community health projects in remote Laos. Work would solely be in a volunteer capacity. From the CARE website. Health http://www.care.org.au/document.doc?id=721 CARE Australia Phone: +61 2 6279 0200 | 1
Think if you were to work in a Lao hospital that you would be teaching rather than being taught, such is the lack of quality here..There is a French Dr attached loosely to the Embassy. Also there is an Australian Dr also with the Embassy. Suggest you contact either for information | 2
