I’ve always assumed that insurance and all the other trappings of the modern world would have no affect until I hit Thailand and I planned accordingly. I figure by the time they bring my butt to a hospital in a town big enough to land planes, and make the arrangements to fly me out of there, I’m probably well already. I’ve never seen a hospital in country that takes a Visa card for instance.
I called the local helicopter company and left their details with someone. They are $1500 an hour and probably go about 150 knots (visa accepted). The hospital in Udonthani Thailand is allowed ambulances across the friendship bridge at any hour. I don’t use evac insurance as I live in a country that has the worst healthcare of all the modern industrialized nations, prefer Thailand.
