Hi all

looking at going to Vietnam in December and have identified Phan Thiet as a possible destination.

What is the best way to get there from Ho Chi Minh, how much would it cost and how long would it take?

A few options:

Private car at about USD 90.00 and it'll take ca. 4-5 hours.

Bus: no idea how much but cheap, I'd guess less than USD 10.00, 4-5 hours. (Dangerous as hell).

Minibus: about USD 10.00, 4-5 hours.

Local train: From HCMC – PT: - 6:20 AM – 11:30 AM (Monday – Sunday), VND 75.000 (=US$ 5) / ticket /way.

- 17:30 PM – 22:30 PM (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), VND 75.000 / ticket /way.

· From PT – HCMC: - 13:40 PM – 19:00 PM (Monday – Sunday), VND 75.000 / ticket /way.

- 23:25 PM – 5:00 AM (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), VND 70.000 (=US$ 4.5) / ticket /way.

· The other prices: VND 115.000 (=US$ 7) / ticket / way with bed at the first floor, VND 110.000 (=US$ 6.8) / ticket / way with bed at the second floor, VND 100.000 (=US$ 6.3) / ticket / way with bed at the third floor.

Thanks for the help the reply is very informative

The train sounds a good option, is there a 1st class compartment? can i buy tickets at the station or is it better to book in advance?

The "Golden Train" is sort of first-class equivalent.

In December I would book the tickets in advance as it is high season.
