getting conflicting reports from people. Is it possible to get a visa on arrival at the cambodian border coming south from Paxse in southern laos near the 4thousand islands? Has somebody done this recently who can advise me?

Check out http://www.talesofasia.com/ . There might be some useful info there. I met half a dozen travellers who passed through this border in March 2004 and I'm pretty sure they got visas on arrival though u need to confirm that.
