Bung Kan - Pakxan border - Anybody has been there lately ?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos
Hello, Anybody has been to Bung Kan - Pakxan border lately ? Which hotel do you recommend in both cities ? Do you know if we can cross any time ? Thank you.

Hi, I can only tell about Pakxan. I spent a night in Pakxan last end of november coming from Phonsavan, heading for Kong Lo. I stayed at the B.K.Guesthouse., which I can recommend. The setting is in a garden and you can enjoy a drink on the guesthouse-terrace. Afair I payed 80000 Kip for an air con room. Pakxan is not at all a touristy town, neverthelesse in about 15-20 minutes you are at the Mekong (just starting at the guesthouse and following the road ) and there are some food stalls and a bit of "night" life - so I really enjoyed my short stay an Pakxan. Hello, Are you a girl and do you mean that there is a night life for girls there ? <3 Thank you. | 3
The border opening hours there are erratic and aren't set in stone as such, but don't try to cross outside of the hours of roughly 8am to 4.30pm Monday-Friday as customs and immigration may not be working after around 4.30 or 5, particularly on the Lao side. On Saturday mornings there may also be a boat crossing the Mekong, at which time customs and immigration should also be operating. However, despite assurances that a Lao visa on arrival IS available on the Lao side, I wouldn't count on it on Saturdays, so if you need a visa come armed with one or try to get it by crossing on weekdays only. | 4
Hello, have you been there lately ? Visa on arrival is not available on the Lao side for foreigner but I do not need a visa so it's ok. Thank you so much. | 5
