Boat travel Siem Reap to Battambang / Phnom Penh

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

I'm thinking of taking the scenic boat from Siem Reap to Battambang next week. I'm not keen though if the trip is going to take 10 / 12 hours because of low water levels and would change my plans. Has anyone done this trip recently or has current knowledge on the state of the rivers ?

Same question really for Siem Reap to Phnom Penh - is the speedboat currently running ?

Hi,

I didn't do the ride, but I met someone who did it. Here is what he told me: He did it during the low water level and they got stuck a few time. The landscape was nice, but the engine was realy noisy. It took them a long time to reach their destination and unfortunaly, he would have prefered to invest this time by visiting tourist attraction.

I hope it will help

Not sure whether this response is too late. I've done it at this time of the year, a few years ago. The water was very low and yes, it took 10-12 hours. I still loved it and it is one of the highlights of that trip, if not all my travels. Just take plenty of water and food/snacks, and prepare to spend a lovely relaxing day on the water.

Not too late, I'm still in Siem Reap. The water levels however are extremely low at the moment, even for this time of the year, so I've decided to fly to Phnom Penh in a couple of days and explore the south. Thanks for the replies.
