Bamboo train still running (Sep 2014) and worth it?

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

Hi everybody,
I was surprised to find out that the bamboo train (norry) is still recommended in this forum as a highlight in Battambang. I have seen a beautiful documentary about it (2009, in German) but they said it would be closed by 2011.

Has anyone used the bamboo train recently (Aug/Sep 2014)?
Is it worth riding it beyond the stretch frequented by tourists?
How do I find it when I'm at Battambang?

Thanks for your help.

Matthias

I haven't been there since 2012,but it was still going then, and afaik it is still going now.At any rate it is still being reviewed online ;-)

You will find it,no problem.Every place in Battambang organises trips,or at least a tuktuk to take you to the start and pick you up after.....

I just finished this tour yesterday, it really funny!
You can ask every tuk tuk driver in the center of city to take you to that place.
It cost 5USD for round way for city to bambook train station, and another 5USD for bamboo train service.

Thanks, Sherry. I hoped someone was gonna say this. Then I'll go to Battambang in two weeks and check it out myself.

Hi we also did this just a couple of weeks ago. It was fun but as my body isn't as flexible as it used to be, my hips were glad when we got to the end!

Sorry for the late response, but we finally did the Bamboo Train in October 2013. It was still running and great fun. None of the guys there could tell me though for how long there will be a Bamboo Train. Neither the police officer selling tickets nor the driver nor tourism office at Battambang.
