Bagan temples pre-earthquake restorationCountry forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Myanmar
Hi there fellow travellers, is there anyone who was in Bagan just some days before the earthquake hit the area and can tell me whether some major temples ( Shwezigon Paya, Ananada Patho and possibly others ) were already under renovation? And if yes, for how long yet? Thanks for any update also regarding the current situation post quake
There's a 6 year restoration going on for Ananda Patho, see here: https://www.facebook.com/IndiaInMyanmar/photos/?tab=album&album_id=895760970518402 Don't know about any Shwezigon restoration ... but there's always some maintenance needed. Post quake: The Department of Archaeology said yesterday that repair work would take at least one year to complete. Visitors are prohibited from entering 33 temples and are not allowed to climb to the upper levels of those temples for sunrise and sunset viewing. The prohibited list includes the popular Pyathatgyi (Pyathat Gyi), Shwesandaw, Htilominlo and Sulamani temples. Shwesandaw and North Guni were the most popular sunset temples, so this means sunrise and sunset viewing places are somewhat limited for the next year. Might get some people to postpone their visit for a year. | 1
I was there three weeks ago and found Ananda being restored. | 2
