has anyone stayed at the Fortuane hotel in Hanoi...whats it like ?
Sapa this time of year...risk of Malaria?

| ralphnhatrang08:34 UTC03 May 2007 | Banks also will exchange your $Oz. Gold shops sometimes give a slightly higher rate, but make sure you check the correct rate first at the bank. Take $50AUD and $100AUD notes also for a slightly higher rate. The ANZ Bank will charge you 1% fee if you change there.

I would be taking malaria prophylaxis in Sa Pa for sure (in fact I did take it there and still finishing off the course now I am back home in Oz). This is based on professional information, if you want to check out malaria risk in SEA, try the US based web site, Centre for Disease Control (CDC).
As for the Aussie dollar question, the rates in the gold shops are not great, try and take US dollars which are accepted most places without changing.
You can buy USD from the banks here before you go, and ask for small denominations if possible.
