Am off to Myanmar in January and want to do a train journey while there. I think Yagon to Mandalay is the most useful one for us. Can anyone give any up to date info on this - realistically how long is the trip and any advice on booking tickets - will i be able to buy a ticket the day before travel? any other hot tips appreciated!
many thanks
I am a resident of Qatar planning to travel to Yangon in December
I found this travel agent in Yangon that claims to be able to process Visas on arrival (Doha has no Myanmar embassy - although there are now 5 flights per week to Yangon - must be the gas sector that ties the countries together)

First Yangon-Lashio bus route launched
TET Lan highway bus company launched the first direct bus route from Yangon to Lashio starting on October 23.
“We launched it because there was no bus line to Lashio from Yangon. Those who want to go to Lashio had to go to Mandalay and then transfer to a car,” said U Win Khaing, an official from the bus company’s Yangon branch.
“Sometimes they had to sleep one night in Mandalay if there was no car going to Lashio. It was very inconvenient for them,” he said.

I will be in Burma from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1(6 full days + 2 half days). I noticed that most people in this forum are always there for at least 10 days. I am thinking of going to Yangon(arrival and departure), Inle Lake and Bagan. How should I plan my trip? I can take flights in between (not sure whether there is flights between Inle Lake(Heho) and Bagan). Any suggestion would be highly appreciated! Thanks.
I'm running out of options and don"t have the time or inclination to wait around in BKK for 6,7, or 8 days. I also need a "special permit" for the Andamans and travel agents won't touch it.
Has anyone had an Indian Visa processed in Burma? The information on their website is somewhat confusing. What is a "reference to country"??
