I'm planning a trip end of June/early July to Thailand (BKK and northern Thailand) and really wanted to go with my children to Myanmar. I had mapped out a rough itinerary starting in Yangoon (1 1/2 days) , Bagan (1 1/2 days) , Lake Isle (1 day) and couple day trips from Lake Isle(2 days) . My children are 19, 16, and 14. Juuuuust wondering what the situation is like and where it would be easiest to do a visa run from Yangon???? I'm working in Yangon for a couple of months and can't get a business visa blah blah blah, so was thinking I'll just fly back to bkk midway through? am i being naive or realistic?! would really appreciate some opinions!! oh and anyone staying/stayed long term in a guesthouse in Yangon that they can recommend??

any suggestions on what to see? flying into Yangon from BKK. dunno too much about the area other than Bagan. any must-sees? will be traveling alone from early Dec. til near Xmas. what are the basic prices like? are they still down due to the protests a while back or did everything normalize, pricewise? has the tourism picked up since then?

The thing is, my dad is travelling to Geneva in a couple of days, and since there's a myanmar embassy over there, he'll be taking my passport and my gf's to get them stamped with the visa. On previous trips to Yangon, I've stayed downtown or at Motherland 2, but my best friend lives in Sanchaung township and it's inconvenient to have to traverse the city every day to go to his English class. Can folks who've recently been to Yangon recommend any guesthouses in Dagon or Sanchaung townships? We're looking to pay $10 - $20 a double. We'll have my parents in tow this trip, so clean, quiet, and working-girl-free are musts.

We’ll be heading to Myanmar in January (fifth trip) and meeting friends there who will depart a couple days prior to us. Thus, we’ll have four full days “extra” in Yangon at the end of our trip. We don’t want to go back to Bago, Kyaiktiyo, nor the Mawlamyaing area on this trip. We’ve not yet been to: Twante, Chaungtha or Ngwe Saung (although we’re not real beach people). Together with 3 friends, I'm going to visit Birma coming December. Does anyone has any tips on interesting places "off the beaten track"?
We also would like to do a trekking of about 4 days in a less travelled area, any recommendations?
Has anyone of you travalled to Putao? What are your experiences? Can you get there and do a trekking without travelling with government airline/tour? Any recommendations on tour guides?
