I really really want to go to Mrauk-U, but the travel times from Yangon seem daunting.
My understanding so far is that you fly from Yangon to Sittwe and then take a boat from there to Mrauk-U?
How long is that overall time? Would appreciate replies from people who have done the journey recently.
Thanks

that depends how much you want to spend......
IE. you can do it in one day if you want, but would likely require paying for a private boat after your flight lands in Sittwe. Otherwise, you would need to overnight in Sittwe then take the public ferry next morning.
The large public ferry takes around 5-6 hours, as do many 'private' boats, but there is meant to be a faster boat available, which is around 2-3 hours, but not sure how often that goes..?
Try a search on here re Mrauk-U and you might find some info re: that boat...

try this link...is just one of the posts on this forum re Mrauk_U in the last months...mentions the local contact for the 3 hour boat, you could email him and find out if there are any afternoon departures from Sittwe to Mrauk-U...?
Otherwise you could take that fast boat the next morning, or have to pay $100+ US for a private boat the same afternoon you arrive in Sittwe.
This is very helpful. I would rather spend more than waste precious time :)
Let me write to the email address and find out about the "fast" boat :D
Thanks again

no worries...a couple years ago a private boat could be got for $40 one way, but now all the prices I notice on here mention from $100 to $150, but I think that includes return trip...but the private boat would probably charge you full price even if just one way as they have to return anyway. Hopefully that local contact can help you out..
Well, a couple of years ago there were not so many people visiting :P
All supply & demand :D
Fingers crossed. Written to them.
I have emailed the same person and he replied that the boat leaves everyday at 4pm, takes 3-4 hours and costs $25 per person-Sittwe to Mrauk U, $20-Mrauk U to Sittwe (leaving Mrauk U at 7am).
A follow up on my earlier posting.
I had mixed results with Kyaw Moe; mraukukyawmoe@gmail.com. He was prompt when I arrived in Sittwe on November 13, told me not to worry about a return boat ride from Mrauk U to Sittwe on the 17th.
But he never responded to phone calls from me or guide for confirmation. The morning of the 17th, my guide checked the dock and found no boat nor Kyaw Moe. I lucked out in sharing another private boat with 5 French tourists otherwise I'd been stuck. Also noteworthy, Kyaw Moe owes my guide 5,000 kyat and had dodged payments and his phone calls. Hence no luck with my guides repeated attempts to contact him.
Leaving Sittwe it took an hour to drive to the special jetty outside the town. The boat ride to Mrauk U was supposed to be around 2-hours but because of currents took 3.5 hours. Total travel time from Sittwe airport to Mrauk U came to about 4.5 hours.
