I was Yangon last Febuary, and of course the weather was perfect.I am thinking of returning this July. of course I know it is the rainy season- my question is will it be a complete ' wash-out'. I have been in BKK many times in July, and it is either overcast,or there will be a downpour and then things clear up. Just do not want to go there and not be able to get out and about.
In July last year,Yangon had serious flooding. Large areas of downtown were under water after monsoon rains. If you look on Youtube or something similar you will probably find some footage of people rowing boats along some of the main roads! Im not saying that it will happen again this July, but Yangon is a bit more primitive than Bangkok and doesnt have the infastructure to deal with the rains in the same way that Bangkok does.
And with the El Nino effect anything can happen-it could be even worse than a couple of years ago when bridges were washed away and a normal 7 hour coach journey from Yangon to Bagan took 60 hours.
