Hello! We're off to Myanmar (Yangon) in 2 weeks & planning to leave for Inle lake a few hours after arriving. I want to book the sleeper train for Thazi (leaving at 17.00, arriving at Thazi at 4.55 the following morning) Then I need to buy tickets for the slow train to Shwe Nyaung leaving at 7.00.
I've contacted Go-Myanmar but the only possibility with them is to buy the tickets from Yangon to Thazi & also tickets from Yangon to Shwe Nyaung. They cannot book tickets for us for just Thazi to Shwe Nyaung & the train from Yangon to Shwe Nyaung appears not to be a sleeper......It seems crazy to pay twice for the Yangon-Thazi part of the journey! Does anyone have any ideas? Can we buy tickets for Thazi-Shwe Nyaung at Thazi station knowing that we'll arrive at 4.55am & the Thazi-Shwe Nyaung train leaves at 7 a.m.? Or can we buy tickets on the train? Or should we just take the Yangon - Shwe Nyaung train which arrives at Thazi at 3.30am & then leaves for Shwe Nyaung at 7am? I know it sounds complicated but I don't feel it should be!!
Many thanks!

Yes you can buy tickets for Thazi- Shwe Nyaung at Thazi station when you arrive there. Most train tickets only go on sale 1 day in advance anyway. The risk you take is 1- the Thazi- Shwe Nyaung train could be fully booked by the time you arrive at Thazi (I don't know how popular that train Is! ) and 2- there is no guarantee that the train from Yangon will actually arrive at Thazi at 4.55. Myanmar Trains are notorious for breaking down and arriving hours late and quite often the timetable doesn't really mean Anything! So although you are supposed to arrive at 4.55, that could easily turn into 8.00! That's the risk you take I'm Afraid! If I was you I would book the Yangon- Shwe Nyaung train instead. The trains are so bumpy and move around so much that there is no guarantee you would get much sleep on a sleeper train anyway. The seats in the 1st class are reasonably comfortable and you are just as likely to be able to sleep in a seat as you are in the sleeper train. Good luck

It is only complicated because you make it sounds so....just book the Yangon to Shwenyaung ticket...simple.

Thanks a lot Chris! I'll take your advice & book the Yangon-Shwe Nyaung train. Do you happen to know whether this train (for the Trazi-Shwe Nyaung part) is the famous "slow train"?
All Myanmar Trains are Slow! The famous (Infamous! ) ^slow^ train goes from Dawei to Ye in Southern Myanmar. It is supposedly the slowest train in the World! I will be making that journey in March! Could be interesting!
