Violate the NLD Burma travel boycott, pay $200 USD upfront in required cash exchange to the Generals, and line the junta's pockets through a state controlled tour while Burmese are being tortured and murdered by the recipients of your largesse so you can fulfill your need to be a tourist in that country because no other country will suit your travel needs...you are a truly paragon of moral turpitude, aren't you, mate?

The $200 exchange has not been in effect for 5 years.

There haven't been State Tours for over a decade now (unless you count the one Gambari is on now.) Almost all tourism in Myanmar is privatized. Yes, through taxes, the junta makes money off of you.

If you want to express your opinion here, go ahead, but you might as well have your facts straight. And being nasty is making your point of view (which is definitely a valid one) seem ridiculous.

I do agree that now is not the time to be visiting Myanmar, though, but OP, don't be put off by this prick. Meeting with the Myanmar people in their own environs to gain a better understanding of their plight is the least you can do for them.

If more "gutless pricks" honored the travel boycott requested by the NLD perhaps freedom and liberty woud come more rapidly to Burmese people. Name callers universally use their hostility to mask their guilt for their own personal sense of responsibility for undermining the solidarity of the Burmese opposition struggling, fighting, and dying, to achieve liberty. I take no personal offence, nor will I respond in kind, as these words are a reflection of their individual cognitive dissonance over the economic and political consequences of their own behaviour.

And let me say this, RunningDog, in my frequent visits to Myanmar, I have done more for the people there than you ever will with your don't visit Myanmar scare campaign. It about time you woke up and face reality.

The greatest thing DASSK could do for the Myanmar people right now is to flood the place with curious foreigners. The boycott must end now. It is irrational and does much more harm than good. I have been watching the news in the evening, and there is an implication that the country is a completely closed society, like North Korea.

News for those who have not been there: REGULAR MYANMAR PEOPLE LOVE FOREIGNERS. If you do not believe me, find a few Myanmar immigrants who live in your country and ask them yourself. They have nothing to gain from telling you to visit Myanmar. And guess what: They will all tell you to go. All of them.

The boycott does not work. The government does not make any real money from tourism. Everything is privatized anyway. Even the visa fee never makes it into the country. If people want to debate the point in a civil manner, feel free. Just don't act like a bunch of jerks.
