Hello all. My wife and I are planning a trip to Myanmar, 3 weeks, last week in February, first two in March. We are looking for some itinerary ideas/suggestions. We prefer smaller communities over large, family run restaurants/street food over table cloth dining. Slow travel over fast (when appropriate) as time can be considered a budget. Beach time is nice, but not a priority. One thought was to travel north via train from Yangon on the Eastern line and return via boat. Points of interest so far Yangon, Inle Lake, Mandalay, Bagan, elephant refuge(?). Is the Southern peninsula worth consideration?

Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you

it all depends on what most interests YOU....
Many people do the standard 'big 4' - Yangon, Inle, Bagan and Mandalay....maybe side-trips/stopovers in Kalaw and/or Hsipaw. Also consider a side trip down south to Mawlamyine/Hpa'an, maybe with a stop at Golden Rock, or increasing number are going all the way south (Dawei, etc).
Slow travel - better to try the newer VIP buses. Trains are very slow, and very bumpy rides....okay to do one or 2 for the experience. Night trains - get a bottom bunk so you worry less about bouncing out. Day trains like Hsipaw-Mandalay, Mawlamyine-Yangon, Kalaw-Shwenyaung (for Nyaungshwe/Inle)...
3 weeks you could do the big 4, a trip down south, and a trip to Hsipaw...
