We have booked flights to Myanmar, and have been able to put together a 26 day tour with Proniti Travel. However have just discovered my bank[ ANZ] does not allow funds to be transferred to Myanmar, either by transfer or by credit card. Western Union is the third option but I have always been told to stay away from this company. Has anyone from Australia had a similar situation and how did they overcome it?
Thanks for any help.

usually tour companies in Myanmar have accounts in Thai banks, or even Singapore maybe....IF they don't then likely WU is your only option...

PayPal, perhaps, but check that PayPal doesn't have Myanmar on a blacklist.
I had a problem with PayPal when I tried to make a purchase while inside Iran because that country is on the PayPal blacklist.

I think Paypal would have Myanmar on the blacklist.....(maybe not related - but the US Ebay is 'banned' from even logging on when there)
Most,if not all, Myanmar Agents have accounts in Singapore or Bangkok and require a deposit of say 30% , the balance with crisp $ cash paid on arrival. This is perfectly normal & I cannot recall any travel forum posts where problems have been reported. All will take CC but with a hefty charge (4%?)
I always pay my Myanmar Agent by International Bank Transfer in US$-costs me circa $25 in fees.
Western Union charges are 2% I believe from recent posts on Tripadvisor who have successfully used them-including one stranded tourist who had lost his CC's but arranged a WU transfer into Mandalay within 48 hours.
SS

of the 2 options WU is the better, if the agent accepts payment that way....the fees for WU are usually less than bank fees, and the exchange rate with WU is better than thru banks...
I recently payed a Yangon hotel bill using Paypal from the UK. So its obviously not blacklisted everywhere!

PayPal is a US company and it applies the US government blacklist. So it looks like PayPal is an option if the recipient is willing to use it.
