I'm sure it is not. You have to fly. There is still trouble in that area.

no it is not, not to FITs...only way to do that leg by road is thru an agent, and you pay for permissions, car and driver, and guide...and that leg takes 2 days to drive...so it is cheaper to fly.

Not allow for FITs!

Rivaltribal is correct. Only way of passing the road is with a permit + car & driver. The permit isn't expensive but the car and driver will be. An overnight stay in Kunhing about half way is necessary.

The most common method of traveling this road is in your own car but this requires a pre-arranged tour.

Fits can't travel this road yet. Maybe in the near future it will open without a permit.

Two years ago, I attempted to ride my bike up from Tachilek to Kengtung. I got stopped at the first checkpoint out of Tachilek and turned back (even though it was permitted to take a bus from Tachilek to Kentung). I know that this is a different (but nearby) road, and 2 years is a long time ago in Myanmar tourism, but I just thought I would add that here.

Hi there,

is the road n°4 from Tauggyi to Keng tung still closed for foreigners?
Since the last post is 2 years old, I wonder if the situation might have changed?

Thanks!

I would love to know the answer to that myself. Unfortunately, no accurate information out there. You might try looking on Crazy Guy on a Bike forum, which has blogs of long distance cyclists.
