Does anyone have any fresh info about the situation with overstays these days? There were some inconclusive posts maybe two weeks ago about this, but I would like to see if anybody can confirm any recent experience with overstaying their Myanmar visa. I am assuming there is no change, no problem, pay $3 per day as one leaves, right?

Also, is there a limit for overstaying? I seem to think 14 days was mentioned in past posts. What happens if one stays 15 or 16 days? (With Air Asia canceling a flight and the subsequent rescheduling, I need to rethink a few aspects of this trip.)

And, what if one has a run in with authorities, perhaps an ID check or something, and they realize the visa is, say, 10 days past due. Will they not care, or will they try to deport one at that time?

Thanks!

And if the authorities, in these troubled times, decide to crack down ?? The more travellers that flout visa regulations the more likely the immigration officials are likely to get difficult ,lots of "baksheesh " to be had, the risk is up to you .....

I doubt if you'll get enough reports about overstays since the crackdown. The normal tourist season is just beginning, so don't hold your breath. It's a risk you'll most likely have to take on your own and it will probably be complicated by what happens between now and the day you finally leave Burma. More protests/crackdowns - higher risk. Less protests/crackdowns - lower risk. If you do want to take the risk, best to go, see what unfolds, and then decide.

seem to recal that someone posted not that long ago its now 5 US/.day PLUS another 5 for 'fee' at airport, and that the previous method of registering with police+extension before was doneaway with: "you pay at airport" being said. No idea what they do if youre out of money/or claim to be so...

I really don't think you will have a problem. It isn't the military sorting out visa overstays. Just civil people doing their job. No heavy handedness or air of authority.

I did it at the end of august. I was 11 days over and it was always no of days * fine plus one day for the administration charges.

I was worried when I left because I had heard that they weren't issuing visa extensions at all so I though I would be in trouble for just overstaying. With communication being so bad I think you can't be expected to know if their had been any changes. They arn't going to lock you up! Just a humble apology and the cash should be fine!

Actually here

it says ...
(d) If the foreigner overstays , he has to pay the overstay fees as follows:-

From 1day to 90 days - 3 $ per day

From 90days and above - 5 $ per day

... so you can just say you read that.
I heard that officially it is 10 days max but I think a few days more is fine.
