I am currently travelling in Myanmar and I know from researching that overland travel into Thailand is possible via Myawaddy/Mae Sot however I am wondering if anyone has gone from Mount Kyaiktiyo to Myawaddy or even another crossing I'm unaware of? Or do I have to go back to Yangon and down to Myawaddy from there? Also if anyone has made the crossing any advice would be appreciated. I'm determined not to fly but a little nervous as theres so little information about timings etc and actual experiences.
Thanks in advance!

I think you can travel by bus fromkyaiktiyo to Hpa an, and then have a choice of bus, shared taxi, private car to Myawaddy and the Thai border. I was in Hpa an last year, and people l met had come that way. No need to return to Yangon. You could also take the boat to Moulmein, and then travel to Myawaddy, if you want to see Moulmein. Or travel down to Dawei, and cross over to Thailand from there at Phu nam Ron.

You don't have to go back to Yangon to then go south again...you can simply continue south from Kyaiktyo....either by bus to Hpa'an or Mawlamyine, or by train to Mawlamyine, then to Myawaddy. You could probably even catch a bus coming thru from Yangon/Mandalay going straight to Myawaddy.
There are other 2or 3 border crossings further south, but Myawaddy-Mae Sot is by far the closest to Kyaiktyo.

OP, I think you may need to consult a good map. Returning from Kyaithiyo back to Yangon only to head out again to Myawady would be ridiculous - as it turns out the only way of getting to Myawady (or indeed, the entire southern Myanmar) is to pass through Kyaithiyo first, unless you fly. However, since there is no airport in Myawady only road based travel is possible and it's only about 5 hours from Kyaithiyo to Myawady via Hpa-an by car.
