Hi,
We just got back from the embassy in Singapore. And exactly the same story happened to us as described in former posts (especially about the visa in BKK). THe clerk went to someone else with our application for approval.
We were simple told that they will have to send our application to Myanmar and that they have no idea how long it will take (maybe a month or even more was the reply).
We are just normal backpackers from EU being on the way for a few months and we have website with stories and photos which proves that and in the embassy they knew about that. We certainly did not write in the application nothing like "journalist" or "photographer". We put "economimst - office work". THey asked about the name of the companies. We gave them but they wanted some prove like business card which we did not have.
So, we were thinking to take a bus to KL and try there. But after reading TT and problems in BKK we will give up. Even though we really wanted to go and this would be great end of our 6 month travel in Pacific and SE Asia
:((
Good luck to others. Please let us know if you had no problems in embassies somewhere in SE ASia.

Sorry to read the bad news.... Hope that you have a safe and enjoyable journey anyway.
If you do decide to try your luck in KL.. the embassy has moved recently.. this is their address:
No.8C, Jalan Ampang Hilir, 55000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
+603-42516355

No Myanmar Embassy in Chiang Mai..
In the past it was possible to get a travel agent to arrange the visa.. but I don't like to take any guesses at the moment. Looks as if the best strategy is to get one in ones own country.

I'm currently working here in singapore and had planned to apply for a visa next week. I had hoped to go for 2 weeks at the start of December.
What are the costs? What documents do I need?
With the fact that I work here, do I have a better chance? I thought I could get it in a few days?
Anybody else have any experience using the Myanmar ebbassy here in Singapore lately?

Hej Nopaun. Shearne is talking about singapore ;)
Shearne,
the cost is 35 SGD, the documents are the simple application formulars which you can download from embassy website or just take it in embassy.
I think right now it may be helpful that you work in singapore, so have your documents with you. Of course it depends what is your job!! And what those bustards spies - consulars will think about it.
Just go there asap and if they tell you like they told us that they will send your application to Myanmar just do it. You have nothing to loose. THey will not take you passport and they tell that thyy will call you when they have the decision. I could not wait more than a few days, so I gave up.
Good luck and lest us know how it went

Generally it seems rather likely to get a visa within Asia, but:
confirmed reports of visa rejections in Bangkok, Beijing, Singapore, Pnom Penh and at two other embassies.
On the other side- haven't heard of any rejections outside Asia yet.
