Hi. Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to get from KL to Myanamar. This is our first trip and I'm figuring we want to go to Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan. Can you tell me the best route/airlines? I've seen air asia does Bangkok to Yangon but that means KL-Bangkok-Yangon and then getting back do we go Yangon-Mandalay-Bagan and back to Mandalay-Chiang Mai-KL via Air Asia or stick with Bagan-Yangon-Bangkok-KL? If anyone knows a more direct route from KL without the Bangkok/Chiang Mai links I'd be grateful - the kids (see below) will be easier with fewer flights - but cost is definitely an issue too.
Also has anyone travelled with kids - I'm not sure how long to allow in each place/how long they'll last. They are aged 4 1/2 and nearly 2 1/2. I'm thinking about 10 days to 2 weeks will be their limit. Is this long enough? How long do you recommend in each place?
If anyone has hotel recommendations suitable for kids I'd be grateful. When we've travelled in Asia before we've tried to go for hotels with pools to give them some cooling off/down time. However....
... what is the weather like in Myanamar in December? Will we need to worry about pool time or will it be too cold to go in the pool anyway? We live in Malaysia so will we need to think about winter woolies for all of us? Does it vary between all the places?
Sorry for all the questions - I have looked on this branch but the 2 kids don't leave much time for searching for answers.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure of the best flight options, but I'd guess international flights out of Yangon to bangkok would be cheaper (Air Asia was $100 round trip for us). Also, you would probably want to fly Yangon - Bagan - Mandalay - Yangon as most flights to Mandalay stop at Bagan anyway. Two to three days in each place should be enough. Your best option would be to have a Myanmar travel agent arrange everything for you, this will probably be cheaper than doing it yourself and a lot less stress!

Hmm, aren't there direct flights between KL and Yangon? Likewise, Singapore?
But I still think your least expensive flight is the Thai Air Asia roundtrip from BKK to Yangon and back. There are budget flights between KL and BKK.

Presently, there aren't any direct flights FROM Mandalay to Chiang Mai unless Air Mandalay recently offered this directly. Otherwise, previously, it was routed thru Yangon.
Burma is the largest country on mainland SEA, so you might consider taking domestic flights between Yangon and Bagan, and Inle and Yangon. You could probably save moneyby hiring a share taxi/minivan for the route between INle and Mandalay.

In the mountainous Shan area, it'll probably be a bit cold, especially once the sun sets and in the early morning so I don't think you'll need a swimming pool in this area.
A pool in Bagan would be good though, and even in the plains of Bagan and Mandalay area, sometimes the nights can get cool but not cold like in the Shan State. A swimming pool would also be nice in Yangon.
You might consider hiring a large Toyota van and do a loop hittingKalaw, INle, Pindaya, Mandalay, Bagan and back to Yangon BUT I think you would need 2 weeks for this much travel. The advantage of hiring a personalized van tour is that you'll get to stop anytime you need for the children.

Malaysian Airlines fly the KL > Yangon route and JetstarAsia do Singapore > Yangon..
As already suggested.. The AirAsia option is going to be the cheapes, albeit not the most convenient. Mandalay air still do the Yangon > Chiang Mai > Mandalay > Yangon triangle every Thursday.
Other airlines to think about would be Air Bagan.. Yangon > Bangkok... Thai Air or Bangkok Air .. same route.
The problem when you fly with Air Asia and want to connect flight is that the transit time may be very long and you'll need to stay overnight in BKK. It took me 26 hours since I left my house in Hanoi till I got to my GH in Brunei as my transit time in KL (flying with Air Asia) was 15 hours and I stayed overnight at the airport.
