I have just 9 nights in Myanmar and will hit Yangon, Bagan and Inle Lake. I can afford one flight between them and buses between the rest.

I'm thinking:

Day 1: Arrive Yangon midday
Day 2: fly Yangon to Bagan. Half day to explore Bagan
Day 3, Bagan
Day 4: Bagan
Day 5: day bus Bagan to Inlay lake (nut bus seems unattractive arriving at 3 am)
Day 6, Inle lake
Day 7: Inle lake with overnight Day 7 to Yangon
Day 8 Yangon
Day 9: Yangon and fly out at night

Does this look reasonable? Is it enough time in Inle Lake? Or should I move on faster from Bagan? Or does it make sense to fly a different segment? My international flights are already set in and out of Yangon.

All suggestions welcome, thanks!

Depends on what you like I guess. I had 4 days in Bagan and 5 in Inle.....if you are interested in ancient ruins there is plenty to see in Bagan.

If you are not very interested in that stuff, you might be bored after two days ;-)

Inle has maybe more variety. You need at least one day on the Lake, and more if you want to see some stuff at the southern end (the more interesting day IMHO) .

as above, it depends on what you like. i think with the limited time you have, your itinerary is looking good.

both bagan and inle lake are beautiful places and you could easily spend 5-6 to days in both places without getting bored at all.

Day 2-if you get the first flight Yangon./Nyaung U you will have virtually a full day at Bagan, not a half day.
Personally I would be over-stupad with 3 days in Bagan so I would add a day at Inle.
You did not say when you are travelling? If it is monsoon season then your travel plans could be affected...

Hello, I loved Myanmar and so I'm v envious! I did three nights in bagan and 3 in inle. I would recommend that you do three nights at inle to enjoy the lake and local villages. I have a few pics with commentary of my time in Myanmar if you'd like to have a look - nipatheexplorer.wordpress.com

Have a great trip

Thanks everyone, I'll consider cutting the third day on Bagan and adding to Inle lake. I am going to Myanmsr because I heard Bagan is spectacular, but maybe 2 days is enough. I just want to leave time to get a full sense of the grandeur

Does the day bus from Bagan to Inle make sense or should I be taking the night bus that arrives at 3am?

I found the night buses to be very comfortable but I would only recommend using jj express, which is favored by tourists. They don't play music all night like others! Negotiate an early check in or if you get the night bus to bagan drop your suitcases and watch sunrise over the temples!
