Hi!

I'm planning a 2 weeks trip to Myanmar at the beginning of September. I want to visit the highights : Yangon, Bagan, Inle Lake and Mandalay.

I will be in Bangkok, so I suppose the best way is:
Fly into Yangon
Fly from Yangon to Bagan
Fly from Bagan to Heho (Inle lake)
Fly from heho to Mandalay.
Fly out to Phuket.

What do you think about the itinerary?
Another issue that concerns me is flooding. Do you think there will be problems in these cities? What about the weather in early September?

Hope to get some advice!

Thanks!

Yeah, your itinerary is quite ok,, but early September is still in the rainy season, you probably may face rain but your destination won't be effected because of flood.

Its rainy season, most floods seem to be west of Mandalay/Bagan, so you should ok. Yangon gets more rain than Mandalay/Bagan area. Humidity can be high, so you may want to book a room with AirCon. If you have 2 weeks do you need to fly everywhere? You also will have time to add a side trip maybe to Hsipaw from Mandalay, do some on the train. Flying everywhere you will miss quite a lot. You can take share-taxis for some routes which are quite reasonable, Inle to Mandalay is about the same as taxi from Heho to Inle. Best to decide when you are there.

Large areas around Mandalay are flooded at the moment with water and river levels expected to rise even higher in the near future. The Irrawaddy and Chindwin rivers are at there highest levels for many years. I believe the U Bein bridge which everyone visits when in the Mandalay area is completely submerged at the moment and can't even be Seen!

There is also articles on the current flooding in The Myanmar Times and The Irrawaddy online magazine. It looks like it is going to get a lot worse as Well!

Yes its La Nina now, after months of drought in some countries there are now floods. Difficult to predict.

Maybe best avoid Myanmar for the moment if on a tight schedule timewise. There will be delays.

Don't worry too much, now a lot of tourists are also in Myanmar even it's flooding now. But all the tour sites are still ok except U Bein bridge right now. You can check out in international news, the flood is not all over the country, just beside of the famous rivers. But currently, it's coming less in the north. So we assume, it gonna be ok soon. :)
