Hi all,

Just looking for some advice on our itinary. I have read through lots of similar posts but just want some reassurance or specific advice around if we have allowed too much time or how it could be better spent.

We will be in Myanmar for roughly 3 weeks in peak season. Brief background; We enjoy beaches, history, outdoors, some nightlife (even quiet beers with new friends) and my partner gets tired of temples quickly.

Fly into Mandalay - 2 nights
Bagan - 3 nights
kalaw - 2 nights. Plan to visit green hill elephant camp if anyone has feedback or a better recommendation. Don't want to go anywhere that does rides or forces elephants to perform.
Inle lake - 3 nights
Yangon - 1 night
Ngwe saung or chaung tha? Thoughts? - 3 nights
Yangon - 2 nights
Mawlamyine - 3 nights (maybe golden rock or hpa an for a night instead?)
Dawei - 3 nights
Then travel overland to Thailand to visit kanchanaburi and onto Bangkok.

Thanks in advance.

Its sounds ok. But there are a lot of temples in Myanmar but after a while I don't really notice them. I think 3 days at Bagan is too long, unless that is 2 days. Think you can add Hpa-An, maybe catch a boat to Mawlamyine. I have not been to those beaches, not sure it worth it if you are going south to Dawei. Not much nightlife in Myanmar, maybe some beers watching football. How are you getting around?

Perhaps forget side trip to Ngwe saung or Chaung tha (not very inspiring) and go for beaches down South?

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, I think my partner would agree 3 days in Bagan is too much so we will keep the exploring Bagan to 2 days. We are considering a the day boat ride from Mandalay to Bagan but have read mixed reviews?

All other travel will be by bus. Except for maybe 1 flight from Inle lake to Yangon (weighing up cost) and now we will include a boat leg from hpa an to Mawlamyine. We are happy to bypass golden rock but this could be a big mistake?

Noted about ngwe saung. We will swap that in for more time down south. Although I think we will only go as south as dawei, don't have the $ for myeik peninsula from what I have read.

Beers and football is definitely enough to keep the other half happy. Thanks again.

I did the boat years ago, its ok but boring aftre first few hours and its expensive now with improvement to the road/bus I would take the bus. You could probably cut 1 day off Yangon, 2 days there is enough I think. Inle to Yangon is quite along bus ride, so flying makes sense, cost is about $120. On way to Dawei Ye seems an interesting place, I hope to go there November.

I went to Ye last March, and it was probably my fave place in S. Myanmar. I got taken out on a trip to the beach, had the biggest and best tom yam ever. Fishing villages, boatbuilding, river life, markets. Ye is a great place to see small town Burmese life.

I also recommend the boat trip from Hpa an to Moulemein, or vice versa.
