Hello everyone!

I'm currently at Inle Lake and have a good week left of my trip. Before heading back to wintry Canada, I'd like to spend some time on the coast.

Searches seem to always yield Ngapali beach which seems pricey (hotel-wise) and touristy.

Can someone recommend an alternative or at least information on non-resort like hotels/ B&Bs for the area?

Lastly, it's going to take time getting there but perhaps there's a closer beach to explore! And yes, I realize how far I am from the bay so it will take time to get there, regardless!

Thank you in advance!!!
~Constance

Dear Constance,

yes from Inle lake you be far away from the Bay. But everything is possible.
Mostly 2 flights to be honest. you could take a night bus to Yangon and then a plane to Southern Myanmar Beaches around Dawei. www.southernmyanmar.com for more information.

The Dawei Peninsula is just opening up for day trips. Some people stay there in guesthouse, which are not fully license, but seem to work. Here is the blog I found.

The a return flight from Dawei to Yangon. If you leaving from Bangkok you can try to cross over land to Bangkok via Htee Khee and Kanchanaburi Border.

This is just a suggestion

Best,

Karl

just take a direct flight from Heho (Inle) to Ngapali, 2 hours later you'll be at the beach. Go for Memento resort, Laguna Lodge or Royal beach resort (Linthar Oo Lodge is an option as well) ... They're all not resort style at all ... enjoy!

as per #2 - there are direct flights from Heho (Inle) to Thandwe (Ngapali). Simple.
Basically the cheapest options at Ngapali are Lin-Thar-Oo and Memento....at this time of year your worry will be more about IF you will even get a room, as Ngapali can book out weeks in advance.

Thank you, everyone, for your help!!

Karl! I took your advice and flew to Yangon then I hopped on a bus and went to Chaung Tha beach.
It made the most sense since I was departing out of Yangon back to Canada.

I enjoyed every minute of my stay and HIGHLY recommend the beach if you like unpretentious, non-touristy, beaches.
It was absolutely beautiful and watching the locals enjoying their 'summer vacation' was a highlight on my trip.

LLJM77 & rivaltribal,,,, I received your messages a bit late.
Glad to hear there are places other than high-end resorts at Ngapali!

Happy travels to everyone!

Sincerely,

Constance
