Hello wise people of the forum,

I will be happy to get some recommendations for a short boat trip. Note that I am not interested in renting a boat but in taking a local route which is used by local people and which follows these requirements:
1. :No more than 4-5 hours in total (both ways or one way and then return by land).
2. Starts and ends in a few hours ride distance from main attractions (Yangon, inle, mandaly, bagan) or Kiakume
3. Nice or interesting scenery (natural or human)

Thanks a lot!

.

There are larger ferries traveling upriver from Mandalay. I found the trip very interesting. The boats travel for a couple of days upriver, but there are many stops, so you could get off whenever you wanted and make your way by road back to Mandalay. I think boats also head downriver from Mandalay, but I'm not 100% sure, and have no personal experience.

If they're still running, small boats take tourists between Moulmein and Hpa-an. The trip takes about 5 hours or so, and is lovely. When I was in Burma, tourist demand was high enough that these boats ran every day. I'm not sure what the current situation is.

I agree with Giora, Moulemein to Hpa an by boat was a lovely trip in 2015, under 4 hours, but may depend on the tides, and which direction you are travelling in.
